Planning for your photoshoot

We collaborate to create a custom experience that fits your needs. During our initial call, we will discuss:

  • How you will be using images
  • The type of shoot you need:
  • Studio:  A photo session in my studio with options for your choice of backgrounds, props, and lighting design.
  • Environmental: On location to capture you, your family, or your team in your natural environment. These images can be completely candid, staged, or something in between.
  • The amount of retouching you prefer
  • The mood you wish to create

Time to shine

Every shoot has specific needs or challenges. But here’s how most shoots work.

Lifestyle on location:

I arrive on location 30-60 minutes before we start shooting for setup and scouting.

These shoots typically last 1-3 hours and are billed hourly.

Studio:

You’ll meet me at my studio in Ballard. We will experiment with lighting, poses, and props until we’ve created images that meet your needs. You’re welcome to bring multiple outfits and props.

These shoots typically last 1-1.5 hours and are billed hourly.

How it works

Final touches and delivery

I’ll review and share the images within 2 business days of our shoot. You will select the agreed-upon number of images, and I will edit those selections and send them back to you for a final review.

I deliver full-size JPG files within 5 business days of your shoot. I can compress the images for an additional fee.

I require 50% payment by the day of the shoot. You’ll pay the remainder upon delivery of the final images.

FAQ

What's your preferred method of communication?

I’m flexible and open to communicating based on your preferences. Email, phone, text, or conference calls are all options.

How do I choose between a lifestyle and studio portrait session?

The choice depends on your preferences and the mood you want to convey. Lifestyle sessions offer a more casual and authentic feel, while studio sessions provide a polished and controlled atmosphere and provide an opportunity to explore creative lighting.

What are your rates?

In-studio shoots are billed by the project. Pricing depends on the scope of each project. Contact me for a quote.

Typically, on-location shoots are billed by the hour. My hourly rate is $300 per hour I’m on location. There are no additional pre-planning, communication, editing, and processing charges. I have a $500 minimum for most shoots.

For shoots lasting longer than 4 hours, I bill at a day rate of $1,250. Days are limited to 6 hours on location unless otherwise discussed.

Project-based pricing is an option for specific jobs. Depending on the location, there may be additional charges for travel expenses.

What should I wear or bring for a portrait session, especially for studio shoots?

Feel free to bring multiple outfits and props to experiment with different looks. I can offer guidance on wardrobe choices during our pre-planning call to ensure you're well-prepared.

Should I wear makeup for my portrait session?

It's entirely up to you and the look you want to achieve. Makeup enhances your features and creates a polished look, especially under studio lighting. I recommend a natural look that complements your style if you're unsure. Ultimately, it’s about you and your preference.

Can you recommend locations for a lifestyle portrait session in Seattle?

Absolutely! I'm familiar with various scenic spots in and around Seattle. We can discuss and choose a location that complements your vision.

Can you accommodate on-location shoots for my business in Seattle?

Yes, I offer both studio and environmental photography services. On-location shoots provide environmental context and tell a deeper story than traditional studio shoots.
